KÖHLERPAPPEN invests in a climate-neutral energy supply

KÖHLER PAPPEN saves 19,000 tons of CO2 per year

Climate-neutral energy supply with GETEC Green Steam

The cardboard factory Albert Köhler has placed an order to GETEC for the planning and construction of a new climate-neutral energy supply for its location in Gengenbach. In the future, the entire plant of the manufacturer of cardboard made of 100% recycled paper will be supplied with heat from a modern biomass heating plant. The new energy supply is scheduled to start operating on 1 January 2022. With the new investment, 19,000 tons of CO2 will be saved per year and an almost climate-neutral energy will be generated.
The outstanding project will be implemented via the GETEC Green Steam concept. KÖHLER PAPPEN is thus taking another big step towards climate-neutral production and is one of the pioneers in the industry. The company has already shown its special responsibility for climate protection by investing in the latest modern technologies and using 100% recycled paper.

"Sustainability and climate protection are not only an integral part of our work, they are part of our self-image. That is the reason why we place our full emphasis on recycling in our production and attach great importance to maximum efficiency in the use of energy, raw materials and all other resources. Thus, this step towards climate-neutral energy production was only logical. With GETEC, we have had the right partner at our side for many years," explains Hans-Henning Junk, Managing Partner of Albert Köhler GmbH & Co KG.

"We are delighted and very proud to be able to implement this GETEC Green Steam project with a renowned company such as KÖHLER PAPPEN. Green Steam is an acceleration program for more sustainability, which converts our customers' energy supply from a fossil supply to a climate-neutral solution - and not only sustainably, but also absolutely economically. Basically, we are completely open to technology and find the right solution for our customers," explains Thomas Wagner, CEO of the GETEC Group.

With an output of 8 MWth, the biomass heating plant will produce about 12 tons of process steam per hour for the production of high-quality cardboard. Forest chips and other residues are used as fuels. The planning and construction as well as the operation and service of the plant are carried out in the Green Steam approach of GETEC. The financing is based on own shares in contracting and from funding from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy on the basis of a resolution of the German Bundestag.

KÖHLER PAPPEN can look back on more than 145 years of company history and today produces more than 48,000 tons of high-quality cardboard in Gengenbach with around 100 employees, including cardboard for making puzzles."
